Suiker Unie generates as much value as it can throughout the supply chain. We are constantly innovating our products and processes to make the greatest possible use of the sugar beet. We do not produce any waste; all residual flows are processed into, for instance, animal feed, green gas or biobased products. Suiker Unie is a sought-after partner for start-ups in, for example, the chemical industry that specialise in manufacturing biochemicals from residual flows.

The forum for innovation and development

Research and development are the key to our future. Suiker Unie works closely with the other Cosun business groups in the Cosun innovation center. Opened in 2017, this high-tech campus is a knowledge and expertise centre for product development, process technology, analysis and research. It boasts analytical, product development, microbiology and non-food laboratories, a fully equipped sensory research facility, 12 conference rooms and an in-house pilot factory.

Suiker Unie makes intensive use of the facilities and uses them to welcome its customers, partners and business associates. The Cosun innovation center facilitates and encourages cooperation and knowledge sharing because collaboration with the other business groups accelerates the group’s results.

The Cosun innovation center is located in Nieuw Prinsenland, an agro-industrial business park near Dinteloord, West Brabant. The Institute for Rational Sugar Production (IRS) has been housed in the Cosun innovation center since 2018.
